One of my favorite services that we offer at the salon is facials. Sadly they’re viewed more as a luxury than as a necessity. I personally don’t get as many facials as I would like but I do have a great at home skin care regimen. Once a week, in addition to my regular cleansing, toning and moisturizing, I do an exfoliation facial. We all have dead skin that dulls our complexion. It’s great to help clean our skin out and rid it of old cells and hardened sebum. I have a few great scrubs that I rotate through. My favorite is one that I get at the salon. I’ve been out of it for a while and just can’t seem to remember to buy it. So I decided to make it.

OATMEAL ALMOND FACIAL

1/2 cup oatmeal
1/4 cup almonds (or almond meal)
Tablespoon plain yogurt
1/4 teaspoon almond oil
1/2 teaspoon honey

To make oatmeal almond facial:

Grind the oatmeal into a flour like consistency. I used my magic bullet but I’m sure a blender would work well.

Next grind almonds into almond meal. You want it to be the tiniest chunks of almonds possible. Almost like a flour. Be careful not to grind too long or the almonds will start to turn into almond butter. Again I used my magic bullet but you can try it in a blender.

After both the oatmeal and almonds have been ground down mix them together with the almond oil, honey and yogurt.

To use oatmeal almond facial:

Wash face with your usual cleanser. Apply a small amount and rub in a circular motion moving up and out all over your face. Let facial sit on skin for five minutes. Rinse with warm water. Tone and moisturize. Enjoy your smooth and clear skin!

This is during. Remember to stay away from your eyes. (unlike me) The skin around your eyes is very delicate and shouldn’t be exfoliated.

I want to break down the benefits of these amazing and natural ingredients.

Oatmeal has anti-inflammatory agents. It also removes dead skin cells and is very moisturizing.
Oatmeal is great for treating acne, eczema, rosacea and rashes.

Almonds/ Almond Oil is fabulous for dry skin. Almonds are rich in vitamin E which is a strong antioxidant. Antioxidants are great for anti-aging. This wonderful nut relieves dry, flakey and itchy skin.

Yogurt contains lactic acid which is a natural alpha-hydroxy acid, an ingredient found in many face cleansers. Alpha-hydroxy acids help to smooth and exfoliate the face. Yogurt is antibacterial and anti-fungal so it’s great in treating and preventing acne.

Honey is very very hydrating. It also has anti-oxidant and anti-microbial properties. Honey helps protect the skin from sun damage and helps to rejuvenate. Honey most importantly has the ability to absorb impurities from pores.

All these ingredients combined make a super anti-oxidant, hydrating, anti-aging, acne fighting and skin smoothing facial. And I’m sure you have all or at least most of these ingredients at home already. It only takes a few minutes to make and use so there’s no excuse not to! Plus it’s edible 😉 I hope you like it as much as I do.
