                           Tropical Smoothie


This smoothie has become my favorite go to post workout recovery drink.  It’s quick.  It’s easy.  And it’s DELICIOUS!

When I’m near the end of a grueling workout the thought of enjoying this sweet fruity beverage has given me the motivation to push through the pain of my shaky muscles and give it all I’ve got until the last rep.  Sipping this takes me on a beach vacation in my mind.  It’s that good.  And it’s that simple to make.

Tropical Smoothie

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1 cup coconut water

1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder

half of a banana (frozen)

1 Tablespoon ground flaxseed

1 large handful of spinach

Combine all ingredients into a blender or food processor .  I use my magic bullet.  Blend until smooth.  Stick a straw in it and enjoy.   Yup it’s that simple.

This is great as a recovery drink after a tough workout.  Coconut water is great for hydration.  Bananas have loads of potassium which helps relieve muscle soreness and lends some sweetness to the drink.  Ground flaxseeds add some fiber and omega 3 fatty acids and the spinach gives you a boost of iron. .  The spinach also gives it that great green color and I swear you cannot even taste it.  Don’t be afraid to add greens to your smoothies or juices.  It’s a great way to sneak in a serving of vegetables and give your body a dose of vitamins.  Feel free to switch up the ingredients.  I’ve subbed vanilla almond milk for the coconut water and it was still tasty.  I’ve also used chia seeds instead of ground flaxseed however the chia seeds do change the consistency and make it a bit thicker.

This can also be enjoyed when you want something cold and sweet and light.  It really is yummy!  I hope you try it and enjoy it too.  Let me know what you think.  Do you have any favorite smoothie recipes I should try?
